The Maple Leafs opening night roster left Easton Cowan off for Jacob Quillan — a $1,500 LTIR cap manoeuvre, not a demotion. Here is the math behind it.

Bo Groulx is the Maple Leafs' cheapest versatile forward and a Calder Cup champion. With two forwards banged up, he should dress Tuesday — not watch from above.

The Gavin McKenna nine-game window opens Tuesday. If he plays all nine, Oct. 19 vs San Jose becomes game 10 — and the contract decision Toronto can't undo.

Monday's Maple Leafs roster deadline forces a cap-compliant 23-man list. The Domi LTIR math, the Lorentz burial and the $70,000 cushion, explained.

Fifteen players hit the wire Sept. 22, six from Detroit. Why the Maple Leafs waivers answer is no claims, and why Toronto's own exposure is the real story.

The Dakota Joshua injury is now a real problem. Jim Hiller would not commit to the winger for Sept. 29, and Joshua has still not played a preseason game.

Erik Karlsson contract talks have not begun in Pittsburgh. He hits free agency in July 2027, the same summer Toronto's cap room finally arrives.

A Shane Wright trade is still on the table and the Leafs have the hole for it. Why the fit is real, the price is not payable, and December is the moment.

The Noah Ostlund extension locks up Buffalo's young centre for eight years at $6.6 million, one day before the NHL's term limit drops to seven.

The Chris Kreider Canadiens deal is one year, $2.15 million. Montreal locked down St. Louis and Bolduc too. Toronto had no cap room to compete.

The Nick Blankenburg PTO gives Toronto a ninth defenceman before camp opens. At 50 contracts and over the cap, Chayka has no room to sign him.

Max Domi won't start Maple Leafs camp, Chayka confirmed. The back surgery complications stay open-ended — and Toronto's cap compliance depends on his LTIR.

NHL eight-year contracts end September 15. Toronto has no eligible player, and the seven-year cap that follows lands on the Auston Matthews extension.

Detroit has four days to sign the Simon Edvinsson contract to eight years and no general manager to negotiate it. The Atlantic math is moving Toronto's way.

Chris Kreider is a free agent after Anaheim terminated his contract. The Chris Kreider Maple Leafs fit is real, but Toronto sits $2.75M over the cap ceiling.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson led all Maple Leafs defencemen in scoring last season on a $3.5M cap hit — and is now being discussed as a cap casualty. That is backwards.

The Maple Leafs PTO board is empty with camp two weeks out. With one contract slot left and LTIR math to manage, that restraint is the right call.

The Auston Matthews next contract math just changed. Makar's $20.4M deal reset the market, the new CBA caps term at seven years, and Toronto talks in July 2027.

An Adam Fantilli offer sheet is being floated for three teams. The Maple Leafs cannot tender one — no 2027 or 2028 firsts, and no room under the $104M cap.

An Easton Cowan trade would be the obvious way to fund a Leafs difference-maker. It also converts Toronto last cheap production into big salary.

Toronto is about $2.75M over the ceiling. The Maple Leafs salary cap fix runs through Max Domi LTIR, and it buys less flexibility than fans think.

The Maple Leafs difference-maker trade Friedman flagged hasn't landed. Here's what Chayka has left to deal, and why the cap makes a blockbuster unlikely.

Pavel Buchnevich trade talk is back. His $8 million cap hit runs through 2030-31 with full trade protection, and the Maple Leafs should stay well out of it.

Vladimir Tarasenko remains a free agent with camp three weeks away. Why the cap-strapped Maple Leafs should offer the 34-year-old a professional tryout anyway.

The Max Domi role question has no clean answer: five new bottom-six forwards, a $3.75M cap hit Toronto needs on LTIR, and no line for him to skate on.

The Maple Leafs contract limit sits at 49 of 50. With paper transactions banned and Toronto $2.75M over the cap, the last slot is the whole cupboard.

A Philippe Myers trade is the cleanest move left before camp: one year at $850,000, no path to minutes, and a front office reportedly willing to listen.

The Gavin McKenna nine games rule decides the Leafs' fall. A tenth appearance burns the entry-level slide forever. The rule, the money, and what Toronto does.

A Trevor Moore trade would reunite the ex-Leaf with Jim Hiller. The hockey fit is genuine — but Toronto is over the cap with no roster spot to give him.

The Sergei Bobrovsky no-trade clause is why he is a Maple Leaf. Florida offered less term and no blanket veto. Toronto gave both, and now owns the risk.

The Cutter Gauthier holdout is freezing the NHL trade market six weeks from camp. What Anaheim has to do next, and why Toronto can only watch it happen.

Elias Pettersson trade talk has resurfaced with no traction. The $11.6-million cap hit makes it impossible for the Maple Leafs, and wrong.

A Kent Johnson trade is the cheapest skill bet available to the Maple Leafs at $1.8 million. Toronto's problem is finding the cap room to make it.
